Microsoft wrapped up its E3 2016 showcase with a well-balanced offering of games and hardware set to arrive starting this fall. In addition to announcing two new consoles, a slimmed down version of the Xbox One, and a much more powerful variant called Project Scorpio, the company revealed a number of new titles including the next major entry in the Gears of War franchise. While many expected a big marketing push at the various upcoming trade shows, Microsoft surprised many earlier today by announcing that it was cancelling its press briefing at gamescom in favor of a new fan event. Still, based on a new rumor, it appears that Microsoft still has a few surprises up its sleeve.
According to a Twitter user by the name ekim, Microsoft is putting together a Gears of War 4 bundle for the upcoming Xbox One S console. The images also captured by the user indicate that the limited edition console is going to be the new 2TB hard drive model and will feature a custom Gears of War 4 themed red controller and console. A download code for the Ultimate Edition the game will be included, which features the game, the season pass and four days early access, though whether or not that applies to this bundle is dependent on when the console is actually released.
Additional details were also leaked out by the account, namely that the bundle will cost around $449 and the game will be Play Anywhere enabled, meaning owners will be able to play the game on both the Xbox One and PC. While this all sounds great on paper and for fans potentially looking to get in on the newly slimmed down console, fans are urged to treat this rumor with a grain of salt until officially confirmed by Microsoft.
As Microsoft’s biggest release this holiday season, it’s clear that the company is pulling out all the stops to make it a success. A Gears of War 4 themed elite controller was also revealed at E3 2016, featuring a red paint job and a gritty design with claw marks, dirt and blood marks, as well as the familiar Gears logo. The new game is also revamping many aspects as well by offering crossplay between PC and Xbox One users, allowing all players to use new maps if the host already owns them, and retaining many popular elements such as campaign co-op and Horde mode.
If true, does this bundle appeal to you at all? For what is included, is the price too high or do you think it is a good value? Lets hear those opinions below in the comments.
Gears of War 4 is scheduled for release for the Xbox One and PC on October 11, 2016.
